Dream Awhile
This song was recorded while we sang to a woman in her home who was terminally ill. This is also a camp song that I learned at camp. I also remember my parents teaching/singing it with us in the car. My daughter's also sang it at their dad's funeral. This is absolutely one of my very favorite songs.

O My Father, sung at Grandpa Dollar's Funeral
This song was also sung at my mother and my father's funeral service. This is an arrangement by me, and as always, I love hearing it sung by my daughters.

Spider's Web, Quick Record for Learning
"Spider's Web" is a favorite of all girl's camp goers. This was recorded quick, the two separate parts, so that my friend Sue could review for girls camp coming up this week.
I will post with the parts combined when I get a few of my daughters together.
It's A Web, Like A Spider's Web (Spider's Web), (quick practice)

Young Love, Sung by Grandpa $'s Grandkids and Great Grandkids
This was most of the grandkids and great grandkids of Grandpa $, sung at his funeral service. Please listen to the introduction too. I will post the picture that goes with this when I figure out how to do that.
Great grandson's Mason and Trevor (guitar and ukelele), grandson Mark on drum, and Grandson Mike on guitar.

YOUNG LOVE (Key of C)
Intro – C x 4 bars (16 counts)
1st verse
C
She was sitting cross-legged on a hood of a Ford
Filing down her nails with an emery board
G
Talking to her friends about people they knew
And all of the things that young girls do
C
When she said, "You see that guy in the baseball cap?
I'd like to spend some time with a boy like that."
G
Betty said, "I've seen him at the hardware store.
I think his name is Billy, but I'm not sure."
C
And as they talked a little while he passed by
She smiled at him he just said "Hi."
G
He was thinking to himself as he walked away
Man, I'd like to find a girl like her someday
[Chorus]
F C G C
Young love, strong love, true love, it's a new love
F C
They're gonna make it through the hard times, walk those lines
G C
Yeah, these ties will bind, young love
2nd verse
C
Well, she just couldn't stop herself from thinking 'bout him
And at a store downtown she saw him again
G
She had both hands full, he held open the door
He said, "My name is Billy. I've seen you before.
C
Can I help you with these? Can I give you a ride?
Can I take you out on a Saturday night?"
G
She didn't have to say what she was feeling inside
He could see the answer shining in her eyes
[Repeat Chorus]
3rd verse
C
Well, from that day on you couldn't keep them apart
They were side by side, heart to heart
G
Mama cried as Billy slipped the ring on her hand
And when the baby was born she was crying again
C
Well, he worked real hard and put some money down
On a little old house at the edge of town
G
And that night as he held her he couldn't believe
That God had made a girl that he'd never ever leave
[Repeat Chorus]
(Halle solo)
C
She was sitting cross-legged on the hood of a Ford
Filing down her nails with an emery board
End with same as intro, 4 bars of C, (16 counts)

Young Love, by the Judds
This is the song that you can use to practice the song, "Young Love", by the Judds. This is what the grandkids and great grandkids of Grandpa $ will be singing for the funeral.
We will do this in the Key of C. This is sung on this video in the key of B, which is a 1/2 step lower than what we will be singing in.
If you want a solo (or a solo with someone else), call me and let me know. Otherwise, all you will need to learn is the chorus, and will just sing each time it comes around.

Sweet Violets at Assisted Living Home for Great Grandma Wilma
This is a song that as a child, I could never quite figure out why it didn't seem to flow as well as other songs - something seemed wrong with it. About the time I became a teenager, I realized it was the lack of rhyme that was bothering me. I also appreciated what the song was really portraying, and then I really liked the song. It wasn't until I was even older that I realized what the last verse was telling me about, "All a girl wants from a man is his "dough". Now I just smile as we sing it, and enjoy it.
We are missing Rachelle :(. It never sounds as good without one of the daughters!
Mason helped out on the guitar. He had never played this song before. I'll post the lyrics and cords.

Peace On Earth With Daughters
This is absolutely one of my very favorite songs. I learned it from my oldest sister, Sharyn, who taught us all the songs she had learned at girls camp while we drove in our car (Volkswagon Bug, 7 kids plus parents - it was a little tight). The simple two part harmony, with no accompanient is clean and fresh.
I recorded this using the GoPro so it is a little unbalanced, as it was clipped to my guitar. It picks up my voice the loudest, so the blend doesn't sound as good as it usually does. Sorry. I'll get a better recording someday…..

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town (practice), by The Singing Grandma
This is my favorite fast Christmas song when performed with my version. Have fun!
What Child Is This (practice)
This is my arrangement of What Child Is This, same melody as "Greensleeves". We've started with the 3 part arrangement, then you can choose "Melody Only", "Low Harmony", or "High Harmony" to learn the part you desire.
This is how I've learned much of the music I know and perform. A lot of arrangements are spontaneously made up, and there isn't any sheet music or recordings of them. It is also the way I have always taught any my "Youth Choirs". Kids and adults alike that don't know how to read music find learning this way non intimidating, and they can be very successful at learning by listening

What child is this, who laid
to rest, on Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Dm C Bb A Dm

keeping?
Chorus
F C Bb A
This, this is Christ the
King, whom shepherds guard and
angels sing
F C Bb A Dm
Haste, haste to bring him laud, the Babe the Son of Mary
2nd verse
Dm C Bb A
So bring him incense, gold
and myrrh, come peasant king to join Him
Dm C Bb A Dm
The King of kings, salvation
brings, let loving hearts enthrone Him
Chorus
F C Bb A
This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing
F C Bb A Dm
Haste, haste to bring him laud, the Babe the Son of Mary
An alternative to the 2nd Chorus is:
Raise, raise the song on high, The Virgin sings her lullaby
Joy, joy for Christ is born, the Babe, the Son of Mary
Also, an optional verse, usually replaces the 2nd verse and moves the 2nd verse (above) to the 3rd verse:
Why lies He in such mean estate, Where ox and lamb are feeding?
Good Christian, fear, for sinners here, the silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through, the cross be borne, for me, for you,
Joy, joy for Christ is born, the babe the Son of Mary

Silent Night - a classic.
We are a little rusty singing this. Sorry for the "off" notes. The kids were running around, and we were trying to show the arrangement. Hope it helps.

Don't Fence Me In
Here is Don't Fence Me In three times, one in 3 part harmony in the Key of C, and the other two in 2 part harmony (Key of D), (one high, one low) so that you can learn the high and low parts easier, or just listen. (We sang some wrong lyrics, sorry!)
Don't Fence Me In, Key of C, 3 part harmony (easier to play w/ukelele)
Key of D, high harmony part only (with melody)
