"It's Time", at the Elementary School's Talent Show

This was so fun to watch!  Trevor and his friend sounded great on "Rhythm", Mason was solid on his guitar, holding it all together, and Carter sang with such confidence.  I loved it.

Glory Land (I've Got a Home In Glory Land)

Singing for Grandma Wilma at the assisted living home.  Mason is helping out on the guitar.  He has never played it before, therefore the "actions" by me to help him know when to "break" on the guitar.

This is a song I learned as a child, again singing in our volkswagen bug driving up the mountain to go home.  This is absolutely one of my favorites!  Very fun memories associated with it, and now, the memory of singing for Grandma Wilma.

O My Father, sung at Grandpa Dollar's Funeral

This song was also sung at my mother and my father's funeral service.  This is an arrangement by me, and as always, I love hearing it sung by my daughters.

I'm Going To Leave Ol' Texas Now

I learned this song in 2nd grade.  My teacher played the guitar, and taught us a lot of fun songs.  She was one of the main reasons I ever started playing guitar, and all the songs she taught us were great.

This was a first time through for this group-my nephews, friends and brother.  I was down visiting, and this was really a treat to get to play and sing with them!

This song is in the key of D, and A is the only other cord in this song.  One person sings the first line and holds it out, and the group repeats after them.  It is easy to do around a camp fire, or a group where no one knows each other songs.

I'm Going To Leave Ol' Texas Now

Chords and Lyrics for I'm Going To Leave Ol' Texas Now

D
I'm going to leave….. (echo), Ol' Texas now…….
                         A                                        D
They've got no use……., for the longhorn cow……

They've plowed and fenced…….   My cattle range…….
                          A                                   D
And the people there……..    Are all so strange……

I'll say adios……  to the Alamo…………
                      A                               D
And turn my head………   toward Mexico………

I'll take my horse…….   I'll take my rope…….
                   A                             D
And hit the trail……..   Upon a lope………..

Spider's Web, Quick Record for Learning

"Spider's Web" is a favorite of all girl's camp goers.  This was recorded quick, the two separate parts, so that my friend Sue could review for girls camp coming up this week.

I will post with the parts combined when I get a few of my daughters together.

Young Love, Sung by Grandpa $'s Grandkids and Great Grandkids

This was most of the grandkids and great grandkids of Grandpa $, sung at his funeral service.  Please listen to the introduction too.  I will post the picture that goes with this when I figure out how to do that.

Great grandson's Mason and Trevor (guitar and ukelele), grandson Mark on drum, and Grandson Mike on guitar.

Young Love, sung by Grandkids and Great Grandkids of Grandpa $

YOUNG LOVE (Key of C)
Intro – C x 4 bars (16 counts)

1st verse
                     C
She was sitting cross-legged on a hood of a Ford
Filing down her nails with an emery board
                       G
Talking to her friends about people they knew
And all of the things that young girls do
                                C
When she said, "You see that guy in the baseball cap?
I'd like to spend some time with a boy like that."
                     G
Betty said, "I've seen him at the hardware store.
I think his name is Billy, but I'm not sure."
                                        C
And as they talked a little while he passed by
She smiled at him he just said "Hi."
                                  G
He was thinking to himself as he walked away
Man, I'd like to find a girl like her someday

[Chorus]
           F                C                 G                       C
Young love, strong love, true love, it's a new love
                                                 F                 C
They're gonna make it through the hard times, walk those lines
                         G                                     C
Yeah, these ties will bind,  young love

2nd verse
   C
Well, she just couldn't stop herself from thinking 'bout him
And at a store downtown she saw him again
                                  G
She had both hands full, he held open the door
He said, "My name is Billy. I've seen you before.
                             C
Can I help you with these? Can I give you a ride?
Can I take you out on a Saturday night?"
                           G
She didn't have to say what she was feeling inside
He could see the answer shining in her eyes

[Repeat Chorus]

3rd verse
     C
Well, from that day on you couldn't keep them apart
They were side by side, heart to heart
                      G
Mama cried as Billy slipped the ring on her hand
And when the baby was born she was crying again
                              C
Well, he worked real hard and put some money down
On a little old house at the edge of town
                            G
And that night as he held her he couldn't believe
That God had made a girl that he'd never ever leave

[Repeat Chorus]

(Halle solo)
       C
She was sitting cross-legged on the hood of a Ford
Filing down her nails with an emery board

End with same as intro, 4 bars of C, (16 counts)

Young Love, by the Judds

This is the song that you can use to practice the song, "Young Love", by the Judds.  This is what the grandkids and great grandkids of Grandpa $ will be singing for the funeral.
We will do this in the Key of C.  This is sung on this video in the key of B, which is a 1/2 step lower than what we will be singing in.

If you want a solo (or a solo with someone else), call me and let me know.  Otherwise, all you will need to learn is the chorus, and will just sing each time it comes around.

Sweet Violets at Assisted Living Home for Great Grandma Wilma

This is a song that as a child, I could never quite figure out why it didn't seem to flow as well as other songs - something seemed wrong with it.  About the time I became a teenager, I realized it was the lack of rhyme that was bothering me.  I also appreciated what the song was really portraying, and then I really liked the song.  It wasn't until I was even older that I realized what the last verse was telling me about, "All a girl wants from a man is his "dough".  Now I just smile as we sing it, and enjoy it.

We are missing Rachelle :(.  It never sounds as good without one of the daughters!
Mason helped out on the guitar.  He had never played this song before.  I'll post the lyrics and cords.

Radioactive at the Middle School Talent Show (grandsons), April, 2014

Trevor (beat box), Mason (guitar, back up vocal) and their little brother Carter (lead vocal) performing at the Middle School Talent Show.  Trevor on beat box is a little hard to hear, cause it sounds so natural and blends in.  No recorded music, all live.  These boys figured this out off I Tunes and rehearsed all on their own.  No sheet music, etc.  I'm very proud of them for putting themselves out there in front of the whole school  Way to go!!!!   They sound great.

Adelin's Dream Dance at the School Talent Show

My daughter found this dress at the second hand store for $3.00 and gave it to her for her birthday.  You can tell that Adelin feels beautiful, and she is dancing so beautifully :) She told me she was going to twirl and do the splits at the talent show, and so she did! We all laughed so hard, and you would too if you knew her personality.

Peace On Earth With Daughters

This is absolutely one of my very favorite songs.  I learned it from my oldest sister, Sharyn, who taught us all the songs she had learned at girls camp while we drove in our car (Volkswagon Bug, 7 kids plus parents - it was a little tight).  The simple two part harmony, with no accompanient is clean and fresh.

I recorded this using the GoPro so it is a little unbalanced, as it was clipped to my guitar.  It picks up my voice the loudest, so the blend doesn't sound as good as it usually does.  Sorry.  I'll get a better recording someday…..

3 Year Old Child's Version of Row Your Boat by 3 of my Grandsons

Grandpa and I were with Cooper, Taivan and Lincoln on Grandpa's trailer at the garden, eating lunch.  They grabbed hold and started turning and singing Row, Row, Row, Your Boat.  This is after they had sung it a few times, and I had time to grab my phone and record it, so they weren't quite as enthusiastic, but very fun.  Watch far enough into it for the fun part.

Land of the Silver Birch

When I was a kid, I dreamed of, and sometimes pretended to be a native american girl.  I was raised in the mountains, in a national forrest.  I love the mountains, and I was raised learning how the Indians took care of the land they lived in, and how they were "one with nature".  If I went hiking, I would never build a fire if there wasn't a place where one had already been built.  I would try and leave "no trace" of where I had been.  I would be careful not to step on anything growing, even weeds.  When I hiked off trails, I would sometimes think, and wonder if anyone had ever put their foot exactly where I was walking, or if anyone had sat where I was sitting on a specific rock.  I loved the feeling of wonder I would get.  I have a reverence for nature.   I hiked a lot with my friend, Patty, who felt the same way.   We would speculate how the Indians would have done this or that, and had a great time.

This song represents that feeling.  The grandkids love it too.  When I teach it in the kids classes at school, it always becomes one of the favorite picks when I return to sing again.

Guitar Strum Tutorial #1

This is a common guitar strum that I use a lot.  The video shows you how to use.  I will attach to the songs where I sometimes use this strum.

You can vary the strum by still using the lower note (mainly the 5th (A) and 6th (E) strings, and changing which strings you choose to pick on the …2, 3, 4.

Added new videos to old posts

I added another video of the boys singing, "Radioactive", (under the post or Song List "Radioactive").
Radioactive

I also added a video of my daughters and I (accompanied by Daryl) singing, "Skydiving" (under "Skydiving post or song list) at a women's conference.  I started to cry and Janelle picked up for me.   Thanks Janelle!  I still struggled to sing the rest of the way through, making my voice/harmony shaky and a bit off.  That just happens sometimes when something is near to your heart.

The grandkids singing/playing the song "Apologize"

Anna is playing the piano while both her and Halle (and a few others) sing during the Christmas holiday.  Uncle/grandpa Phil was up visiting, so the kids wanted to play and sing for him.  We loved having him here.

I was trying out my new GoPro camera, and had the full water proof case still on, and didn't realize the back needed to off to hear the sound.  I also didn't realize what it would sound like when placed on the piano itself (not a great recording).  Thank goodness I always like to improve!  The kids really wanted to have me post, so here it is.

Skydiving (personalized)

Words and cords at bottom of page.

This was just for practice for a performance this weekend with my daughters, at a women's conference.  I love this song. It is great!

My husband (the girls dad) died when they were young.  We adjusted a few of these words so that it went with a story about him.  It encourages us to appreciate our lives, and to have the right perspective, and hopefully, bring us to action in a positive way.

ADD ON 1/14/14 - I also added a video (immediately below)  of my daughters and I (accompanied by Daryl) singing, "Skydiving" at a women's conference.  I started to cry and Janelle picked up for me.   Thanks Janelle!  I still struggled to sing the rest of the way through, making my voice/harmony shaky and a bit off.  That just happens sometimes when something is near to your heart
